City of Zero 02:57
People walking by with their meaningless smiles Turning their backs after meaningless helloes goodbyes Meaningless truths and meaningless lies Meaningless laughs and cries Hey my friend take a look at the mirror There's nothing to lose in the city of Zero The slave and the king The rich and the poor Everybody's searching for some meaningless cure Dancing to the music with no rhythm and no tune Under a meaningless sun and moon Don't ask me what had happened here There's nothing to choose from in the city of Zero The meaningless government obsessed with defence Writes the next law that makes no sence It gives you a number instead of a name And a full time job not to go insane And the city is looking for the next hero But all the heroes are dead in the city of Zero I meet them one by one each night of the week The rich and the poor The slave and the king In the one special place where I offer them sin In the end of the city for a night time dream They come for the show, and they come for a beer They say the devil walks down in the city of Zero

Inside 03:30
Who you are don't matter inside Sugar opens the door for me I step inside and I grab my seat I take my time on a girl that's sweet Risk it all for a steady beat I get my drink while the pain sinks in I say hello to the evening thrill Twist of fate either lose or win Hold it back yeah just breathe it in Who you are don't matter in inside
3.
My phone is still waiting for the next missed call The devil is behind the door to take my soul Those creepy rumors crawling underneath my floor Stuck deep inside the walls and in the key holes My beer's got hot and my cigarette burned My baby is cold to me cause she's got hurt Those rumors are chasing me on the streets and in my head Walking in my shoes and lying in my bed I guess it ain't that bad The customers are crazy and the bartender's mad The waitress dresses tastelessly the music is bad I hear all those complaints and i ask them again Why do you keep coming here day after day? I guess it ain't that bad
4.
It's rather cold tonight From light to dark tonight What if there's no we anymore And I don't like you like before You know Only monkeys say they're sorry when you go Just leave yourself tonight Forget the past tonight What if there's no me anymore And I don't like you like before You know Only monkeys say they're sorry when you go
5.
Sorry Baby 03:23
I'm sorry baby I never had the time I'm sorry baby I never made you mine I'm sorry baby I always did some crime I'm sorry baby I'm sorry baby for the days I came on too strong I'm sorry baby for the nights that took too long I'm sorry baby for the times that I kicked you out of my home Easy baby don't you wanna sing along? Hear me baby where'd you get here from? Tell me baby I don't need to lie to get you on Come on baby out of the streets and into my home I'm Sorry Baby I'm sorry baby for the days that'll never come back no I'm sorry baby I could've tried a litlle bit more I'm sorry baby last drinks are always sour I'm sorry baby I'm sorry baby but don't you wanna sing along? Hear me baby I don't need to lie to get you on Tell me baby where'd you get here from? Come on baby out of the streets and into my home

I've got a devil that's gonna swallow me down Down I counted all my sins And came out short by one I changed my name again And came back up like a man Oh honey honey you try But you can't pass me by You never made me blue I'll kill and die for you But I ain't waiting baby For another jesus or Mary Chain No not me baby I see them all down in the end
7.
Rush Time 02:38
Come on inside Grab your seat There goes the night Can you feel the beat? Beers for the swine Poisonous treats There goes the light Through the stinking heat And where this night is going No one knows And the alcohol's flowing For the overdose Where this night is going No one cares Hey hero Are you there? Come on inside Try to walk on the air Crash down on the floor Why do you even care? Blended and single Shame red as wine Bourboun and rum Forget about the rhyme And where this night is going No one knows And the alcohol's flowing To the overdose Where this night is going No one cares Hey hero Are you there? I've got these voices spinning in my head beating me down

Coins 03:06
Hey there hello what's your name? What will it be? How bad d'you want it? Everyone's drinking all night like they were dogs I'll help you find your way Through the tables and the lonely people Did you just smile to me or do you have something to say? I'm not here just to amuse you Oh no no no Coins on the tables oh boys I wish i had something new to recall Two drinks for one it's a sure thing You can't really lose cos you never had it Something to eat while you at it my friend Any meal for a king is a feast it's a feast for a clown Outside not too far People see things in different ways Instead of living fast and small I won't burn all up in the yellow sun
9.
In Your Arms 03:02
You've payed my bill but I ain't gonna stay In your arms tonight in your arms tonight You kissed my lips but you ain't gonna stay In my arms tonight in my arms tonight In your arms tonight In my arms tonight You treat me like I'm a one of a kind In your arms tonight in your arms tonight I give you more than you'd get outside In my arms tonight In my arms tonight In your arms tonight In my arms tonight We can always get a room Up above in another town You gave up hope so I don't wanna stay In your arms tonight In your arms tonight A kiss from you is a kiss from death In my arms tonight In my arms tonight In your arms tonight In my arms tonight Judging by the looks of things You should have stayed in another town The devil's got his eyes on you Smile in case he doesn't look back

Lay Me Down 03:32
Floating in the air Like a cigarette smoke I don't care I don't care anymore Grey blue and white In a shimmering light In this thin air Lay me down Lay me down to bed I'm like the alcohol fumes Like a cheap perfume Like some dirty Unwanted tune Marry me girl So I'll have the place To put my head down Lay me down Lay me down to bed

about

The first time I heard the name "Proud Madam", I didn't know it was a name of a bar. I didn't know there were any bars in The City of Zero.

It was really hard to find a job in this city. And living on the streets or sleeping in police stations and cheap motels, wasn't so attractive. No, not anymore. After a luxurious apartment in Paris and going to work only from being bored, that was a harsh challenge, but the way back to Paris is lost.

So I got really desperate. That's why when I heard about "Proud Madam". I decided to swallow my pride. Being sure they were talking about a vain Bordel, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a small dark bar, a bit medieval and neglected but welcoming. Heavy Russian accent pierced through my fractured thoughts:
Where do you come from, lady?-
I turned my head and faced the bar. In it was a man who seemed to have been taken straight out of the middle ages. A cross was tied over his neck with some thin rope. He wore heavy sharp boots, an old shirt and a Russian milkman cap. On his finger was a huge ring with a weird looking rubine stone in it. He kissed my hand as a greeting, like an old-fashioned Russian Cossack.
Vladimir Klimov or just Vlad for you.-
He impressed me with his mysterious and charming attitude. With a slightly bitter smile, he patiently listened to my story: France, the violin, singing, papa at maman and my failed attempts at getting jobs since I arrived at The City of Zero.

He listened to me patiently and after a while he said:
- I just fired a worker yesterday, so you may be useful for tonight. Come on, let's go to settle the payment. Help me to write things down - my spelling is terrible.
After the bureaucracy was done, he smoked a cigarette.
- Welcome, Alice. Hope you'll have a great time over here. I'll tell you a bit about the City of Zero. While telling his story, he called me a few times by a weird name - something like Margaret or Magdalene - I can't really recall. It was amusing to hear him cursing in Russian each time.

As the bar's door opened to the customers, the first one to come in was an elegant man with wide open psychotic eyes. His gaze was always curious and he had a bit of a childish face. He wore skinny jeans, a red shirt that looked more like a gown and had white gloves on his hands.
A golden cross hung over his neck, and he was covered with small colourful tattoos.
Without saying a word he sat at the bar and stared at me with his cynical smile, like he was
measuring me. Then he held out his hand and ceremoniously said:
- A real flower of Eden. What on earth brought you here to this Sodom? – He paused - No, no, dear, you don't have to answer – keep me in suspense!
He winked and sent me a kiss through the air. I was shocked from his behaviour but I have to admit that I was enjoying the attention - his presence felt strange but familiar.

Then he warmly greeted Vlad, who called him "Little Jesus". I cleaned a large wine glass and brought a bottle of exclusive Pinot Noir to the table at the corner. The table was now arranged like a ritual: over it was a snow-white napkin, some fancy siverware and giant candles. I didn't quite understand why "Little Jesus" was doing this strange ritual or why Vlad was going along with it.

Later, after a small talk with Vlad, I discovered that "Little Jesus" was really named Louis Bergman. Vlad said that he's a gifted musician, probably the most gifted around - a weird genius. No one actually knows where he lives or what he does. I think that Vlad called him a Hedonist. It made me smile to think that Vlad knew that word considering his reading and writing skills.
It turns out that Louis was an American Christian who came here to see The Great Church but lost his mind somewhere along the trip. Claiming that he carried a "holy spirit", he started preaching about the redemption of mankind and Doomsday. He really drew my attention despite his strange and even outregaous behaviour. La curiosité a tué le chat, maman used to tell me when I was a kid.

Then Vlad suddenly called me and whispered:
-The night has just begun.
